Saints To Host Drogs On Opening Night
St Patrick's Athletic will begin the new League of Ireland Premier Division season with a home match against Drogheda United.
The 2025 campaign will kick-off on Friday February 14th, with Richmond Park hosting the 2023 Sports Direct FAI Cup winners versus the FAI Cup holders on St Valentine's Day.
Stephen Kenny's men, who finished 3rd last season, will start the new season with three home matches in their first four.
Following the visit of Drogheda United, St Pat's will travel to Galway United, where they won on the opening night of the 2024 season, before back-to-back home matches against Sligo Rovers and Derry City in Inchicore.
The first Dublin derby of the year will be at Tallaght Stadium on Friday March 7th against Shamrock Rovers before a home clash with Bohemians the following Friday.
They'll finish the first series with a trip to Waterford, a home clash with Champions Shelbourne and an away match at Turners Cross against Tim Clancy's newly promoted Cork City.
The mid-season break will take place between the 1st and the 13th of June with the season concluding on a Saturday (November 1st), against Shelbourne at Tolka Park.
The opening evening match against Drogheda United will be the 134th league meeting between the sides, Pat's have won 68 of them, with 36 draws and 39 victories for the Louth men.
In the four league matches last season (2024), The Saints won two, with the other two ending all square.
These sides have faced off five times on the opening day, the most recent was a 1-0 victory for Pat's at Richmond Park in March 2013, with Shane McFaul on target, the first opening day meeting was all the way back in the 1979/1980 season, with Drogheda United winning that one 2-0.
