Danny Rogers Signs New 2 Year Contract

Stephen Kenny has continued to build his squad for 2025 and beyond with the news that Goalkeeper Danny Rogers has signed a new two-year contract to remain at Richmond Park until the end of the 2026 campaign.

Rogers joined the club in August 2022 and made 10 league starts during his first season in Inchicore.

He made his first start on August 14th (the same day he signed) against Sligo Rovers, keeping a clean sheet on his debut in a 1-0 win at Richmond Park.

The Super Saints won five league games in a row during Danny's initial run in the team, he was on the winning side in seven of his ten league appearances, keeping two clean sheets.

Danny was also nominated for our 'Manguard Plus' Player of the Month for August and September 2022 during the early months of his time at the club.

Rogers picked up a thumb injury during the warm up on the second night of the 2023 season before the match against Shelbourne which kept him out for a number of months. That injury, and the form of Dean Lyness, meant Danny's only competitive appearance in 2023 was in a 3-1 defeat to Wexford in the Leinster senior Cup in January.

He returned to full fitness and the matchday squad towards the end of the 2023 season and was on the bench for our FAI Cup Final win against Bohemians at Aviva Stadium.

Danny made his first start of the 2024 season and kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win at home to Dundalk on March 8th, and went on the start the next 20 league matches in a row before Joseph Anang's arrival in the July transfer window.

In total, the Dubliner has made 35 appearances for St Pat's, 30 of them in the league with the other five coming in the Leinster Senior Cup.

The 30-year-old was part of our Leinster Senior Cup winning squad earlier this month.

ROGERS: "I'm delighted to get the next few years secure at the club everyone wants to be at in Ireland."

Danny spoke to our Youtube channel about his new contract, you can watch the full chat above.

"The Manager (Stephen Kenny) spoke to me a couple of months ago about extending my contract, and the future and where he thinks the club can go to, so I was delighted to get it done.

It feels like a long time ago since I made my debut against Sligo in 2022. I've enjoyed it since I've been here, obviously I've had a couple of injuries and little setbacks, but when I've got the chance to play, I've really enjoyed it and the fans took to me well, so hopefully it continues."

KENNY: "Danny is an excellent goalkeeper and we're very pleased that he's chosen to sign a new contact."

Manager Stephen Kenny added: "We're delighted that Danny has re-signed for St Patrick's Athletic, he is an excellent goalkeeper who has a very high level of professionalism and high standards that are in evidence every day in training.

Danny has had an impressive career to date, and has a wealth of experience and we're very pleased that he's chosen to sign a new contract."

While Director of Football Ger O'Brien said: "I'm delighted that Danny has committed his future to the club. He has been a fantastic professional since arriving at the club in the summer of 2022, and is a top goalkeeper with huge experience from his time in England, Scotland and here in Ireland. Today's news makes our goalkeeping department really strong and we're looking forward to working with Danny over the next number of seasons."

DANNY'S DIARY

The Dubliner, who was born in New York, began his schoolboy career with Belvedere FC, before moving to Cherry Orchard.

Rogers joined Aberdeen in 2011 and made over 160 senior appearances during his 10 years in Scotland with Dumbarton, Falkirk and Kilmarnock among his most notable clubs.

He was named Dumbarton Player of the Year at the end of the 2014-2015 season and was part of the PFA Scotland Championship Team of the Season the following year.

Rogers was capped 10 times by the Ireland U21s and was also in the Ireland senior squad in 2016 during Martin O'Neill's time in charge of the Boys In Green.
