16'S BOW OUT / PAUL MCGRATH CUP FINAL UPDATE

OUR 16's QUEST for the All-Ireland came to a shuddering halt in Waterford on Sunday in a dramatic semi final clash with Waterford Crystal. Trailing 1-0 for all of the game it looked like they were never going to score.

With time running out the Saints still tried to play constructive football. They were finally rewarded with a goal for all their effort with only seconds remaining. A long throw in was headed on - with Waterford Crystal failing to clear, Barry Kenny latched onto the loose ball and lobbed the stranded "Crystal" keeper to earn a dramatic equaliser.

Penalties now loomed as extra-time saw no real chances created. Players from both sides started to feel the pace of the game as it was stopped repeatedly when legs went into cramp.

In the dreaded shoot-out Waterford Crystal proved to be the masters. Having progressed through the last two rounds in the same manner the semi-final was to be no different.

Mitchell Casey an outfield player donned the keeper's jersey for the penalty shoot-out making the crucial save to deny Derek Foran and then scored the deciding kick himself to advance Waterford Crystal to the final 5-3.
