PAT'S COMPLETE STRIKERS SWOOP

St Patrick's Athletic manager John McDonnell has significantly bolstered his attacking options by snapping up Robbie Doyle and Brendan Markey.

With high earner Tony Bird having been released last month and Jimmi Lee Jones, Gary McPhee, Aidan O'Keeffe and Paul Rose all injured, McDonnell was forced to field Paul Osam as an emergency striker in last week's FAI Cup defeat to Drogheda United.

But with four days to go until the end of the transfer window, the Saints manager has moved to strengthen his attacking sector by swooping for two new strikers.

Doyle arrives from Bohemians, where he had fallen out of favour following the arrivals of Tony Grant and Dominic Foley, while Markey was released by First Division Monaghan United last weekend.

While Doyle had been strongly linked with a move to the Inchicore club all week, the acquisition of Markey represents a minor coup for the Saints, as the former Millwall man had scored a hat-trick for relegation rivals Dublin City in a trial match earlier in the week before choosing a move to Richmond Park.
