ENDA MCGUILL U'21 CUP

Enda McGuill U21 Cup (sponsored by O'Driscoll/O'Neill Insurances) First Round

Dundalk 0 - St Patrick's Athletic 7
Sheppard (3)
Fitzsimon (3)
Scully

A hat trick each from strike pair Philip Sheppard and Caolán Fitzsimons and a single effort by midfielder Mick Scully sent St Pat's comfortably through to the next round of the Enda McGuill Cup.

It was an impressive performance from the youngsters against a more experienced Dundalk side with Darren Sergeant, Ian Maher and the two hat trick heroes particularly impressive.

What made it even more impressive was that of the starting eleven only goalkeeper Brendan Clarke had played in last seasons Under 21 side and the ten outfield players were all making their debuts in the competition.

Two goals by Sheppard and one from former Lourdes Celtic man Fitzsimons gave the young saints a 3-0 lead at the interval. Despite being almost assured a passage into the next round there was no ease up in the second half. Four more goals were added to cap off a striking performance.

St. Pats Ath: Clarke, Gannon, Sergeant, Fox, O'Connor, Walton (Roland), Maher, scully, D'arcy, Sheppard, Fitzsimons
