Tom Part Of Irish Success

Saints' midfielder Thomas Mulroney (pictured number 8) played 90 minutes again for the Republic of Ireland's under 19's as they secured qualification for the elite round of the UEFA U19 Championships with a 1-0 win over Sweden this afternoon.

The win was secured thanks to an 83rd minute long range effort from Reading's Liam Kelly. Ireland now top their qualifying group after their two wins and are guaranteed a place in the elite round as one of the top two to progress.

Ireland's final group game is against Bosnia & Herzegovina on Tuesday with the game starting at 1pm in Trelleborg, Sweden.

"It's unbelievable to win this group. It's an outstanding achievement from the group of players. They were brilliant. We rode our luck a little bit but if you're under the cosh and defend well and goalkeeper does well you can't ask for more from them," Irish U19 manager Paul Doolin told the FAI official website.

"The back four and two central midfielders Thomas Mulroney and Alan Browne were fantastic. I'm delighted for everybody and the staff."
