STUART BYRNE BECOMES A SAINT

St Patrick's Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of former Shelbourne and Drogheda midfielder Stuart Byrne.

Byrne, who can also play full-back, completed his move today and will begin training with his new team mates on Monday.

Speaking exlusively to stpatsfc.com Byrne explained how the move came about:

"The move had been hinted at for a couple of weeks but I didn't speak to Jeff (Kenna) until during the week.

"I wanted to take my time over the move this season but I'm delighted the move to Pats has come about.

"There's no hanging around now, no room for complacency, we're straight into the football and I'm really looking forward to it."

Byrne (32) began his career at Bohemians and also played for Home Farm and Longford before moving on the Shelbourne. He won three league titles while at Tolka Park and a further title at Drogheda.

St Pats CEO Richard Sadlier feels that Byrne's experience will help his team achieve this season:

"Stuart is an experienced player and will add to the squad we have.

"I've no doubt he will have a big contribution to make and will assist us in achieving what we're setting out the achieve this season."

Byrne will be available to make his debut next Friday as the Saints travel to Sligo next Saturday hoping to build on last night's 1-0 victory in Cork.
