SFAI CUP - THIRTEENS CRUISE THRU'

St Patrick's Athletic 3 St Kevin's Boys 0
HAVING COME through the last 2 rounds of the SFAI Cup our Under 13's faced St Kevin's Boys on Saturday looking to book a place in the 4th round against Shelbourne.

Kevin's were unbeaten in their 6 league game and 2 SFAI Cup games to date so the Saints knew the "Tangerines" would be no pushovers. The opening 10 minutes saw the Whitehall team in the ascendancy without really creating a chance of note.

Slowly Keifer Byrne and Craig Smithers in the Saints midfield started to take control and drive the Inchicore side forward. After a sustained bout of pressure where 3 crosses were repelled by the Kevin's defence a fourth cross was headed out to the edge of the box for the on rushing Smithers to drive home low and hard and give Pats a deserved 1-0 lead on 20 minutes.

The 2nd half started brightly for the red and whites and their good play in the 1st 10 minutes was rewarded with 2 goals in the next 5 which secured the 4th round berth.

Good play by Derek Warren released Karl Tims whose cross from the right found Glen Carroll ghosting in at the back to head home for 2-0.

Carroll then turned provider when released down the left wing. His superb cross found Danny O'Leary lurking at the back post and the Saints striker's brilliant control left him with a 1 on 1 with the Kevin's keeper which O'Leary coolly slotted home to give way to his trade mark Russian dance celebration.
